Developing a Future-Fit Technology Function for a Leading Australian Construction Company
One of Australia’s largest construction companies was undergoing a group-wide transformation and needed to strengthen its technology function to support long-term growth. Without a fit-for-purpose technology strategy, the organisation required a new Technology Operating Model to ensure its digital capabilities could meet future demands.
Laying the Foundation for Transformation
Our team worked closely with leadership to define a future-state technology strategy and establish a clear roadmap for execution.
This included:
Gaining Executive Buy-in – Securing leadership support and funding for the strategy and technology function uplift.
Capability Assessment – Reviewing existing team structures, identifying pain points, and assessing the effectiveness of existing processes and handoffs.
Performance & Metrics Review – Evaluating team output, performance metrics, and capability to align with future business needs.
Technology Operating Model – Designing a streamlined framework to guide decision-making, resourcing, and investment.
Business Capability Modelling – Developing a structured model to prioritise initiatives and provide a clear rationale for change.
The Outcome
Within six weeks, we designed and delivered a future-state operating model, enabling the organisation to enhance its digital and operational capabilities. The business capability model became part of the company’s strategic language, helping to align teams, identify new solutions, and drive technology-led transformation.
A three-year roadmap was developed to sequence work, focus resources, and guide the organisation through a prioritised set of initiatives. By embedding governance, structure, and clarity, this transformation is setting the foundation for sustained digital success.
